How we estimate this

An estimate, not a guarantee. It assumes you order before 12pm BST on a working day and your artwork is approved the same day, then adds the working days to dispatch for the options you chose and 1 to 2 working days of delivery to the UK mainland, skipping bank holidays.

Free artwork check and instant on-screen proof, with a manual proof available for £12. If we make a print error, we reprint it free. See our refund policy.

Correx Boards for Events, Exhibitions and Fetes

Correx boards are the usual choice for outdoor event signs: car park signs, entrance signs, direction arrows and signs at the gate. Correx is a lightweight, rigid board made from fluted polypropylene, and it is waterproof. We print 3 to 4mm correx boards in A3 (297 x 420mm), A2 (420 x 594mm), A1 (594 x 841mm) and A0 (841 x 1189mm), single or double-sided, from one board.

Which size. A1 boards are big enough to read from a car, so they suit main entrances and road junctions near the venue. A2 works for car park and field signs. A3 suits signs on doors, gates and tables. Double-sided boards can be read from both directions, which helps on a path or a road with traffic both ways.

Fixing. Boards come without holes or stakes, so plan your own fixings, such as cable ties to railings or fences. Need holes? Contact us before you order. Our correx board guide covers sizes and fixing.

Rules in England. Signs for a local event that isn't run for commercial purposes, such as a fete, a school show, a charity race or a village festival, can usually be displayed without consent under Class 3D of Schedule 3 to the advertisement regulations. The limits: no more than 0.6 square metres, put up no earlier than 28 days before the event and taken down within 14 days after it. An A1 board, at about 0.5 square metres, is inside that size limit. You still need the landowner's permission, and signs on the highway, verges and lamp posts need the council's agreement. Commercial events follow different rules, and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own.

Setting up and timing. The correx board templates mark the bleed and safe area. Every upload gets a free automatic check, and you approve the on-screen proof before you pay. The dispatch time is shown on the correx boards page, counted in working days from proof approval, and most mainland deliveries arrive 1 to 2 working days after dispatch, as an estimate.

Prices include VAT at 20%. Delivery is free to UK mainland addresses.

How Events, Exhibitions and Fetes uses Correx Boards

Direction signs to the venue

A1 boards with the event name and a large arrow at junctions near the venue, with the council's agreement where they go on the highway.

Car park and entrance signs

A2 boards for parking, disabled parking, entrance and exit, fixed to railings or fences with cable ties.

Signs at a fete or show

A3 and A2 boards for the gate, ticket desk, first aid and toilets, reused every year if they carry no dates.

Worked example: a village summer show

The committee needs four arrows on roads into the village, two car park signs and three signs on the showground. It orders four double-sided A1 arrow boards, two A2 car park boards and three A3 boards, with no dates on any of them, so they can be stored and reused.

Design tips

  • One message per board, such as "Show parking" with an arrow.
  • Large, plain type that a driver can read in a few seconds.
  • Strong contrast, such as black on yellow or white on dark blue.
  • Make separate arrow boards for left and right, or use a double-sided board with the arrow pointing the right way on each side for the traffic that sees it.
  • Leave out dates if you want to reuse the boards next year.
  • Keep text inside the safe area, clear of the edges where fixings go.

Correx Boards for Events, Exhibitions and Fetes: FAQs

Can I put event signs on the side of the road?

Only with the right permissions. In England, Class 3D of Schedule 3 to the 2007 advertisement regulations covers signs for local non-commercial events, within size and timing limits, but you also need the landowner's permission. Verges, lamp posts and other highway land are controlled by the council or highway authority, so ask them before you put anything there.

Which correx size is best for direction signs?

For signs that drivers need to read, A1 (594 x 841mm) gives room for a large arrow and a few large words. A2 suits car parks and footpaths, where people are closer. At about 0.5 square metres, A1 is inside the 0.6 square metre limit for local event signs under Class 3D in England.

Do the boards come with holes or stakes?

Our boards come without holes or stakes, so you add your own fixings. Cable ties to railings, fences or posts are the usual method. Need holes? Contact us before you order.

Are correx boards waterproof?

Yes. Correx is a waterproof plastic board and suits outdoor signs. How long the print lasts outside depends on the sun and the weather, so boards suit signs that are up for weeks or months, such as the run-up to an event, rather than years.
