Posters, A3 Poster (297 x 420mm)
An A3 poster is 297 x 420mm (29.7 x 42cm, about 11.7 x 16.5 inches), twice the size of A4. It is the everyday poster size for noticeboards, shop windows, cafes and classrooms, big enough to read across a room and small enough to pin up anywhere.

Supply a PDF in CMYK with fonts embedded or outlined. 300dpi keeps small text and fine detail crisp; 150dpi at full size is usually enough for photos seen from a step or two away. Landscape works too: turn the page.

How big is an A3 poster in cm and inches?
A3 is 29.7 x 42cm, or about 11.7 x 16.5 inches. It is twice the area of A4 and half of A2, because each A size doubles the one below it (ISO 216). Ready-made A3 frames are easy to find, and the paper shape is the same as A4, so a design made for A4 scales up without stretching.
Is my image good enough for an A3 poster?
For sharp detail, aim for about 3500 x 5000 pixels, which is 300dpi at A3. A photo of around 1800 x 2500 pixels gives 150dpi, which usually looks fine from a step or two away. Below that, edges can look soft. The automatic check flags low-resolution images when you upload, and the on-screen proof shows your poster before you pay.
Where does an A3 poster work best?
A3 suits places where people stand close: noticeboards, doors, windows, counters and walls in a corridor. If people will see it from across a room or the street, A2 or A1 gives you more space for big type. For a quick comparison of all four sizes, see our poster sizes guide.
Can I order a single A3 poster?
Yes. You can order one copy, and the price per poster falls as the quantity rises, which helps if you need a set for several sites. The table on this page shows every quantity with VAT included. Each different design is a separate line, starting from one copy.
Can A3 posters go outside?
Our posters are printed on 170gsm silk paper for indoor use, or behind glass in a window. Paper is not designed to get wet, so it will not last outdoors. For a sign that stands outside, an A3 correx board is printed on waterproof fluted plastic instead.
