How Many Leaflets Do I Need? Door Drops, Events and Responses

Last reviewed

For a door drop, print one leaflet for every home you want to reach, multiplied by the number of drops: 1,000 homes and one drop needs 1,000 leaflets, which cost £45 for A5 from fPrint. To plan from the number of responses you want, divide it by the response rate you expect. The DMA Door Drop Report 2025 gives an average door drop response rate of 0.5% for 2021 to 2024, so 10 responses would need about 2,000 leaflets at that rate. For handing out at an event or a shop, print one for each person you expect to give one to, plus a few spares.

The calculator below does the sums for you and links straight to the right quantity on our leaflets page.

How to count, by type of campaign

Campaign How to count Example
Door drop to homes Homes in the area x number of drops 800 homes, 2 drops a month apart: 1,600 leaflets
Responses you want Responses wanted ÷ response rate 10 responses at 0.5%: 10 ÷ 0.005 = 2,000 leaflets
Event or stand People you expect to hand one to 300 visitors to a stand: 300 leaflets, plus spares
Counter or reception Customers over the weeks the leaflet is current 40 customers a week for 6 weeks: 240 leaflets
Community newsletter Homes on the round x issues 1,200 homes, 4 issues: 4,800 leaflets

Leaflet quantity calculator

What are the leaflets for?

Two drops a few weeks apart need twice the leaflets.

Your own estimate: expected visitors, or customers over the weeks the leaflet runs.

Starts at 0.5%, the average door drop response rate in the DMA Door Drop Report 2025 (2021 to 2024). Use your own figure if you have one.

Extra for the counter, the car or a second round. Leave at 0 for none.

Enter your numbers to see a quantity.

Prices include any VAT due (leaflets are zero-rated where they qualify) and free delivery to UK mainland addresses. A response rate is a planning figure, not a promise: your area, offer and timing matter more than the leaflet.

Worked example

This table works through a one-off door drop for areas of different sizes, using the same method as the calculator. It works without the calculator, so you can read the answer straight off.

Worked example: one door drop to every home Assumptions: one leaflet per home, no spares, A5, 148 x 210mm, 135gsm gloss, double-sided. Responses use the 0.5% average door drop response rate in the DMA Door Drop Report 2025 (2021 to 2024); yours may be higher or lower. Prices checked .
Homes Leaflets to order Price Responses at 0.5%
500 500 £37 about 2.5
1,000 1,000 £45 about 5
1,800 2,500 £67 about 9
2,500 2,500 £67 about 12.5
5,000 5,000 £82 about 25

What response rate should I plan on?

A response rate is the share of leaflets that lead to a call, a visit, a booking or a website visit. One published UK benchmark is the average in the DMA Door Drop Report 2025, published with JICMAIL in June 2025: a 0.5% average response rate for door drops between 2021 and 2024, or about 1 response for every 200 leaflets.

Treat that as a starting point, not a forecast for your area. It is an average, and it cannot say what your own drop will do. Your result depends on your offer, the homes you reach, the timing and how easy it is to respond, so give people a clear reason to get in touch and one simple way to do it.

We do not publish response rates of our own, because we print the leaflets but do not see the results. The best number to plan with is your own: run a small first drop, count the responses, and use that rate for the next one.

How to find the number of homes in your area

  • Count it. For a few streets, count the homes on a map or walk the round once.
  • Ask your council. Many councils publish ward profiles with the number of households, from the 2021 Census.
  • For an election. Use the number of households on the round you will deliver, not the number of voters, if you are delivering one leaflet per home.

Leave out homes with a sign asking for no leaflets, and add spares for the counter, the car and any second round you are not sure about yet.

Choosing a quantity to order

Our leaflets page sells set quantities of 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000. The price per leaflet falls as the quantity rises, so if you need a number between two quantities, it can be worth comparing both: 1,000 A5 leaflets cost £45, and 2,500 cost £67. Our guide to how much leaflets cost has the full price table for every size.

A5 (148 x 210mm) is the usual size for door drops. DL (99 x 210mm) fits a DL envelope and a rack, and A6 suits counters. See leaflet and flyer sizes for the measurements. Leaflets are zero-rated for VAT where they qualify, so there is no VAT on the price, and delivery to UK mainland addresses is free.

Questions

How many leaflets do I need for a door drop? One for every home you want to reach, multiplied by the number of drops. 1,000 homes and one drop needs 1,000 leaflets; two drops to the same homes need 2,000. Leave out homes with a sign asking for no leaflets and add a few spares.

What response rate can I expect from leaflets? The DMA Door Drop Report 2025 gives an average door drop response rate of 0.5% for 2021 to 2024, about 1 response per 200 leaflets. It is an average, so your own result may be higher or lower. A small test drop gives you a rate for your own area and offer.

How many leaflets do I need to get 10 responses? Divide the responses you want by your response rate. At the 0.5% average in the DMA Door Drop Report 2025, 10 responses would need about 2,000 leaflets. At a higher rate you would need fewer, and at a lower rate more.

How much do 1,000 leaflets cost? 1,000 A5 leaflets printed on both sides on 135gsm gloss cost £45 from fPrint, which is 4.5p each, with no VAT to add and free delivery to UK mainland addresses. Prices checked 10 October 2026.

How many leaflets should I print for an event? One for each person you expect to hand one to, plus spares. If you expect 300 visitors to your stand, 300 leaflets plus a few extra is a sensible starting point. Leaflets left over after the event can go on a counter or in a later door drop.

What is the smallest number of leaflets I can order? Our smallest leaflet quantity is 100 per design. Quantities on the leaflets page are 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000.

Should I order more leaflets than I need? Only if you will use them. The price per leaflet falls as the quantity rises, so the next quantity up can cost little more than the one below. Compare the two on our price table, and keep spares for the counter, a second drop or replacing leaflets that get damaged.

How do I count homes for an election leaflet? If you are delivering one leaflet per home, count the households on the round, not the number of voters. Your council's ward profiles often give the number of households from the 2021 Census.
