An A4 leaflet is 210 x 297mm (21 x 29.7cm), the size of a standard sheet of office paper. It gives you the most room of any flat leaflet we print, so it suits price lists, menus, information sheets, newsletters and anything with a lot to say.

Supply a PDF in CMYK with fonts embedded or outlined, the front on page 1 and the back on page 2. A4 is the largest flat size that can be zero-rated as a leaflet under paragraph 3.3 of the HMRC notice.
Leaflets are zero-rated where they qualify under HMRC VAT Notice 701/10, paragraphs 3.3 and 3.4: a single sheet no larger than A4, on paper rather than card, ordered in a quantity of at least 50, with any form or coupon area taking up no more than 25% of the page.

Is A4 the biggest leaflet that can be zero-rated for VAT?
As a flat single sheet, yes. HMRC VAT Notice 701/10, paragraph 3.3, treats a leaflet as a single sheet no larger than A4, or a sheet up to A2 folded down to A4. So a flat sheet larger than A4 does not meet the leaflet test. Our VAT on printing page explains the other conditions, such as the minimum of 50 copies.
Can I make an A4 leaflet in Word?
Yes. Set the page to A4, keep text 5mm or more inside the edges, and save as a PDF. Word does not add bleed, so either keep a white border or set a custom page of 216 x 303mm and run your background to the edge of that. Our free A4 template has the trim, bleed and safe area marked, and the automatic check flags a file without bleed when you upload it.
Is an A4 leaflet good for a menu?
A4 is a common menu size because it fits a full list of dishes and prices on one side and leaves the back for drinks, specials or ordering details. For a menu that people will handle a lot, 170gsm gloss or silk feels sturdier than 135gsm, and silk has less glare under restaurant lighting.
Should my A4 leaflet be flat or folded?
Flat A4 is best when the page reads as one sheet, such as a price list or notice. Folding the same A4 sheet in half gives four A5 panels, and a roll or Z fold gives six DL panels, which suit step-by-step content and fit DL racks and envelopes. All three folds are on our folded leaflets page.
What is the minimum order for A4 leaflets?
The minimum is 100 leaflets per design, and different artwork counts as a separate design. The price per leaflet falls as the quantity goes up; the table on this page lists each quantity, and the dispatch time is shown in your basket.
