A DL leaflet is 99 x 210mm (9.9 x 21cm), a third of an A4 sheet. It is the tall, narrow size that fits a DL envelope and the leaflet racks found in receptions, hotels and visitor centres, and it works well for menus, price lists, timetables and offers.

Supply a PDF in CMYK with fonts embedded or outlined, the front on page 1 and the back on page 2. DL is usually designed portrait, but a landscape layout of 216 x 105mm with bleed works too.
Leaflets are zero-rated where they qualify under HMRC VAT Notice 701/10, paragraphs 3.3 and 3.4: a single sheet no larger than A4, on paper rather than card, ordered in a quantity of at least 50, with any form or coupon area taking up no more than 25% of the page.

What does DL stand for, and how big is it?
DL is the name of a standard envelope size in the ISO 269 series, and leaflets made to fit it share the name. A DL leaflet is 99 x 210mm, which is exactly a third of A4: three DL panels side by side make an A4 sheet. In inches that is about 3.9 x 8.3. It is the same finished size you get by folding an A4 sheet into three.
Will a DL leaflet fit a DL envelope?
Yes. A DL envelope is 110 x 220mm under the international ISO 269 standard, so a 99 x 210mm leaflet slides in with a few millimetres to spare on each side. That makes DL a good choice for mailings, and for sending a leaflet with an invoice or letter folded into the same envelope.
Is DL a good size for a menu?
DL is a popular shape for takeaway menus, drinks lists and set menus because it is easy to hold in one hand and stands up in a holder or rack. A long list may need both sides, or a folded A4 leaflet with six DL panels instead. For menus that will be handled often, 170gsm feels sturdier than 135gsm.
Should I choose a flat DL leaflet or an A4 folded to DL?
A flat DL leaflet has two sides, which is enough for an offer, a short price list or a timetable. An A4 sheet folded to DL gives six panels of about the same size, so choose it when you have more to say. Both fit the same racks and envelopes; see our folded leaflets page for roll and Z folds.
Is there VAT on DL flyers?
Usually not. DL flyers on paper, ordered in a quantity of at least 50 and meant to be read and passed on, normally qualify for zero-rating under HMRC VAT Notice 701/10. A leaflet that is mainly a form to complete, or a voucher taking up more than 25% of the page, may not; see our VAT on printing page.
